Vitax Planting at Normanton Le Heath
Vitax involvement with The National Forest will start with the replanting of over five acres of land near the village of Normanton Le Heath, located roughly midway between Coalville and Ashby-de-la-Zouch in Leicestershire. About 500 trees will be planted over a three year period.
With a history dating right back to Roman times, Normanton Le Heath is believed at one time to have been a Viking settlement. It lies on the edge of the great heath which once stretched westwards from the edge of Charnwood Forest. The first written references to the village are from the Middle Ages, when much of the land to the north was known to be woodland or heathland.
Now, under the auspices of The National Forest and with support from Vitax the area will, at least in part, be rediscovering its origins.
“We are delighted to be involved in a project which is very much about improving the environment of modern England but, at the same time, is creating a link to the past,” said Paul Gooding, Chairman of Vitax.
“It’s also great to know that we will be planting the broadleaved, deciduous trees – oak, ash and wild cherry – of the traditional English forest, rather than ubiquitous conifers.
“Where possible, we will also be using our products, such as the new Vitax Q4+, to give the new plantings the best possible start.”
