The idea of a swimming pond is not new. In fact they have been built in Europe since 1985 - but natural ponds have been used for swimming since time immemorial.
The English Swimming Pond concept was launched at Hampton Court Palace Flower Festival in July 2001 by Anglo Aquarium Plant Co. It caused real excitement - people even jumped in to try it with their clothes on.
It was not only the visitors that were thrilled by this novel display, the judges were also immensely impressed and awarded it a Gold Medal and the Tudor Rose Award for the Best Water Garden.
The original design came from a competition to encourage landscape design students at Capel Manor Horticultural College.
Enquiries flowed in and a year later two swimming ponds had been constructed by the sister company Anglo Swimming Ponds.
Natural good looks What is so exciting about the swimming pond is that it's packed with structural and flowering plants, which attract wildlife, and it looks so natural.
In this commercial system swimming ponds are individually designed to suit the space and feel your garden requires. An added bonus is that they requires little maintenance, compared to a sterile bright blue oblong chlorinated pool. In Europe they also skate on them in winter! |
