ach chapter is beautifully presented, using simple straight-forward terminology that even the most inexperienced garden will find easy to understand. There is still much for the veteran water garden to learn. On every page there are clear full-colour photographs depicting a wide range of water ideas and designs, each one accompanied by an explanatory note giving useful hints and advice.
Even though the title indicates that this Handbook is about creating formal water gardens, some of the more innovative designs are anything but out-dated. These combine very easily with detailed information about some of the more traditional elements of formal water gardening, such as fountains and classically styled shapes.
oving on from the descriptive pages into the practical instruction section, this aspect of the books is perhaps its strongest element. Very clear pictoral and written step-by-step instructions reveal how gardeners of all skill levels should go about planning the style, proportion and position of a formal water feature.
