Make beautiful covers for jam jars, small vases or glass tumblers by using luxurious fabrics and ribbons. Measure the width around the jar and cut a length of fabric fractionally wider but twice the height, stitch or glue the edge seams together. Add contrast by using strips of heavy fabric such as velvets with transparent voiles in different shades. Slip the fabric tube over the jar and place flower lights or night light candles inside. Group several together for a warm festive glow.

Create a string of minature fairy lanterns by covering a set of flower lights with dried Chinese lanters (Physalis). Hang them on your door to welcome guests or pile them up in a glass vase for a festive table decoration. Simply make a small slit in the base of each 'lantern' and pop the light inside. The brighter the colour of the seedheads the more vivid the glow.

An unusual alternative to more traditional decorations. This seed ball can be made from just about any seedhead that you have in the garden. You will need a 60mm cotton craft ball and plenty of dried seedheads. Using a glue gun, attach a length of luxurious velvet ribbon looped in half to make a hanging tie. Put a blob of glue on each seedhead and stick to the ball. Rest the ball on a glass to stop it rolling around whilst drying. Aim to completely cover the ball with seeds, you might like to add some berries of dried flowers for contrast. You could spray some of the seedheads with metallic sprays in gold and silver or spray with glue and roll in glitters. When complete wrap a length of small christmas fairy lights or flower lights around the ball for a wonderful decoration.
