Positioning & Filling the Mosaic Pond Before you fill the pond and stock it with fish and plants decide where in the garden or conservatory that you are going to position it. Consider how much sunlight the area will get, too much sunlight on still water encourages the rapid growth of algae, not enough and your plants and livestock will not flourish. We used four 10cm (4in) square sets from a garden centre that stocks stones for building driveways, to stand the pond on to keep it off the ground. Position your sets in the right place and carefully stand your completed pond on top. Make sure that the ground beneath the sets is level and therefore that the pond will sit level. Make any necessary adjustments.
Fill the pond with water from a hosepipe but only when you are happy that the waterproof grouting and adhesive that we have used is completely dry. If it is not then your pond will always leak, if in doubt leave the pond for another night before filling. Fill the pond up to 2/3 depth, then add any oxygenating plants that you intend to use. Play around with the positioning to get them just right. Fill up the pond to within approximately 2 inches of the top.
If you intend to add livestock, check with an aquatic supplier on the amount of fish that your size pond can accommodate happily. Introduce your fish and leave for several hours for all to settle.
