Don't panic the changing colours of your hydrangea are just another feature of this remarkable plant.
- Hydrangea blooms turn colours as they age. The most common colour for hydrangeas to turn is green (especially in climates and locations that are hot and humid). After the blooms turn green, they often lighten in colour and even pick up shades of pink and burgundy.
- It is at this time that the blooms can be picked for dried arrangements. Dark, unattractive petals can be snipped out with scissors.
- In cooler climates (and occasionallly in hot ones), some hydrangeas age to beautiful shades of blue and purple. Experts say that there is nothing gardeners can do to promote these lovely colours.
