Winter
- Ensure that visiting birds are being fed with good quality kitchen scraps, suet balls, peanuts and formulated wild bird seed mixes.
- Provide a bird-bath for drinking and bathing. Remember to keep it free of ice during cold snaps.
- Remove any fallen leaves from the pond's surface to prevent them decaying and polluting the water.
- Place a tennis ball in the pond to provide an unfrozen area to allow wildlife to gain access. This can alos prevent the pressure of expanding ice from cracking a glass-fibre pond.
- Take note of where hedgehogs, butterflies and other creatures are hibernating and try to ensure they remain undisturbed.
