Winter Ensure that visiting birds are being fed with good quality kitchen scraps, suet balls, peanuts and formulated wild bird seed mixes. Provide a bird-bath for drinking and bathing. Remember to keep it free of ice during cold snaps. Remove any fallen leaves from the pond's surface to prevent them decaying and polluting the water. Place a tennis ball in the pond to provide an unfrozen area to allow wildlife to gain access. This can alos prevent the pressure of expanding ice from cracking a glass-fibre pond. Take note of where hedgehogs, butterflies and other creatures are hibernating and try to ensure they remain undisturbed.
